• Beta-carotene acts as a precursor to Vitamin A, which supports the neurological response related to the photoreceptors. Main dietary sources of beta-carotene include yellow and green (leafy) vegetables and fruits. Carrots, spinach, broccoli, peppers, pink grapefruit, tomato juice, and peaches are all sources of beta-carotene. BetaCarotene should not be taken by smokers
• Lutein, which protects the eyes from harmful wavelengths of light, is found naturally in the macula at the back of the eye but has to be obtained from dietary intake. Dietary sources include egg yolk and dark, leafy vegetables, such as spinach and broccoli. Because these sources contain small quantities of lutein, even balanced diets often do not contain enough lutein to realise its benefits.
